The Forgotten Art of Travel
Have We Traded Meaning for Momentum?
Travel used to be an adventure – handwritten tickets, folded maps, and unexpected detours. Now, it’s optimized, filtered, and run by algorithms. Have we forgotten what it truly means to travel?

1. Travel Before Influencers
Once upon a time, travel was deeply personal. It wasn’t about posting; it was about being. You got lost on purpose, trusted strangers for directions, and followed curiosity – not a GPS. I can often ask myself how we can regain that, but still be able to discover the places you see in pictures and dream about. How can we be present, and at the same time get the photo who will take you back to the feeling you had at that very moment.
“Getting lost was part of the plan.”
2. Experience Over Checklist
Modern travel is driven by bucket lists and photo ops. But what if you spent a whole afternoon in a café, talking to locals, watching life unfold – with no pressure to post?

3. Slow Travel, Deeper Memories
When you travel slowly, you connect with the soul of a place. A month in one village can leave a bigger mark than ten countries in ten days. It takes time to ingest all the feelings and emotions of your surroundings. To really see the beauty of nature and understand the culture you’ve stepped into.
Choose depth over distance.
4. Unplug to Reconnect
Technology was meant to help us travel, but now it often controls the journey. Disconnecting – even for a few hours – lets the real world in. You don’t necessarily have to document everything to remember it forever. What I usually do while travelling is either:
- Try to take the place in and live in the moment before taking up my camera
- Come back to the same spot another day so I can enjoy it the first time seeing it
- Spend max 10 minutes on photos and put aside at least the double to enjoy.
5. Travel as Self-Discovery
The most powerful journeys often happen within. When we quiet the noise, we hear ourselves more clearly. That’s what the forgotten art of travel is really about: rediscovering connection – to the world, and to yourself.
Where do I want to go with this?
The old way of traveling – intuitive, immersive, slow – isn’t gone. It’s just buried beneath wifi signals, algorithms, and endless itineraries. When we slow down, listen more, and feel deeper, we bring that magic back.
